The variety, quantity, price, and quality more than makes up for the lack of style. Turkey lovers can head for Boston Market where you can enjoy turkey and roast chicken with a variety of delicious vegetables every day - and not just on Thanksgiving! Those with a sweet tooth can head for Dairy Queen (42345 Garfield Road, Clinton Township - Tel: 586-263-7540), and if your craving for sweet things still has not been satisfied your best bet would be Laxmi Foods (38948 Dequindre Road, Sterling Heights - Tel: 586-977-1770) which offers a selection of fresh delicacies which are availabe as nice take-outs for your afternoon tea at the weekend. Delectable. They also offer a variety of Indian groceries and spices. Grand Traverse Pie Company is also worth a visit for Michigan's specialty - Blueberry Pie (on Hall Road close to Lakeside Mall). Those who enjoy Middle Eastern delicacies will have to drive a little further to Shatila in Dearborn for Baklawa and other delights.
If you enjoy cooking your own food the supermarkets have just about everything your heart could desire whether it is Meijer Inc (36600 Van Dyke Ave), or the deli-style supermarket Argusa which caters exclusively to the discerning palate of a more international crowd. Nino Salvaggio on 17496 Hall Road is also a good bet if you are catering for a special party. |

Music

Freedom Hill - live music (http://www.freedomhill.net/) Summer kicks off with an electronic music festival that is held in Hart Plaza in Detroit during the Memorial Day weekend and includes live performances and music spun by DJs that brings house, techno, jungle, and ambient music to willing ears and throngs of dancing party goers. The first festival was held in 2000 and has been a phenomenal success. The summer months also see Sterling Heights be transformed from a sleepy hollow into the party capital of Detroit with a slew of free concerts being staged in Dodge Park by a variety of local performers in a safe and friendly setting. The local performers enjoy delighting audiences by playing covers from a variety of eras and performances are enjoyed by old and young alike. Whilst the Sterlingfest Art & Jazz Fair at the end of July and the beginning of August sees the pairing of art, food, and music. The festival culminates with a free concert that is held by a well known group or individual performers that have included Rick Springfield and the B52s amongst others in the past. But, the party doesn't stop in Dodge Park. Big names also come to Freedom Hill for regular concerts (at regular prices) with residents of Sterling Heights rocking to the contemporary sounds of Sheryl Crow, the Goo Goo Dolls, and Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Billy Idol amongst others in the past. |
